With rising concerns over the new variant in South Africa XBB.1.5, Nicknamed the “Kraken variant” by some for its ability to spread, so far there haven’t been significant differences in severity identified between cases caused by XBB.1.5 and those from other variants.
The Ultra Music Festival in South Africa was cancelled in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and maybe looking doomed to repeat the same fate if this new more transmissible variant has it way.
Tulio de Oliveira, head of a gene sequencing institute at the university, said on Twitter, ” I will strongly advise all large event organizers to think about the health of the people.”
