Pecten Gibbus

The calico scallop, Argopecten gibbus, is firmly identified with the straight scallop; it is discovered likewise in the western North Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.

Habitat and distribution of its species

The scope of the calico scallop reaches out from Maryland through Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, and south to Brazil, including Bermuda and a large part of the Caribbean.

Pecten gibbus reaches 40 to 60 mm and a shell height and approximately 80 mm.

Habitat and environment

Most are found in open marine or saline estuarine waters from the subtidal zone to the mainland , with scallop beds ordinarily dispersed corresponding to the coastline. Calico scallop will in general occupy more profound waters than those more toward the south.
