Ugandan government soldier kills retired army veteran and wounds top city political advisor

Police and the Uganda Peopleโ€™s Defence Forces (UPDF) are investigating a case
in which a soldier was shot and killed while a top city political advisor was severly wounded.

Police have identified the killer soldier . They confirmed that apart from killing the retired army General Kaliisa Mark,
who died as he was being rushed to Mulago Referraal hospital. He aslo wounded the NRM top political advisor Mutaasa Sebyoto who was flown to Aga khan hospital in Nairobi. Where he under went
an intense 4 hour surgery on his left arm.

The incident took place today at a trading center on the outskirts of the capital Kampala.The run-up to Thursdayโ€™s vote was plagued by the worst political violence in years, with more than 50 people killed by security forces amid crackdowns on opposition rallies, as well as the repeated intimidation and arrest of opposition figures.
Police say their actions are necessary to ensure compliance with COVID-19 restrictions.
