There have been rumours that electrification of the rail line between Wigan Wallgate/Bolton will no longer take place. The rumour is correct. However, instead of electrification it has been decided to convert part of the railway line into a guided bus system. This will only cover Wigan Wallgate/Bolton and trains will still run from Wigan Wallgate/Southport/Manchester.
A guided bus route makes more sense as the buses can continue their journeys on the standard road routes.
Anyone who is against this scheme should contact there local council.
