Korean League of Legends Star “Faker” Dies at 21

South Korea Telcom T1’s mid lane star Lee Sang-hyeok, known by his in-game name “Faker”, passed at a hospital in Seoul early this morning. Suffering a sudden heart attack after a night out with his teammates following their series with KSV, attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Sang-hyeok’s time of death was recorded as 1:42 (GMT+9) at Baekje Hospital in the South district of Seoul. “Faker” was considered by many to be one of the greatest professional gamers of all time, finding particular success in popular game “League of Legends”, where his achievements with SKT included; 2x Mid-Season Invitational: 2016 2017, 3x League of Legends World Championship: 2013, 2015, 2016, and 6x League of Legends Champions Korea. Faker is one of only two players, along with a former teammate Bengi, to have won the League of Legends World Championship three times.

SKT released a statement on Twitter this morning saying that “they were praying for the family of Lee Sang-hyeok and were deeply saddened to see the star pass.”
